National Highways 2030 Water Quality Plan

11 Sep 2024
Water Resource Management Keynote
Contamination Wastewater Net-Zero Water Management

We are the government owned company that operates, maintains and improves the 4,500 miles of England's motorways and major A roads, known as the Strategic Road Network (SRN). We recognise the importance of doing this in a way that protects, restores and enhances the environment. National Highways is responsible for around 3% of England's roads. Road runoff can carry pollutants which under certain conditions can have a negative environmental impact. This session sets out National Highways’ (NH) plans to address potential pollution to the water environment, arising from the historic development of the SRN, from its highest risk discharges by 2030.
