Regional Rep, Surfers Against Sewage

Surfers Against Sewage acts from the beaches to the front benches as a force to end plastic and sewage pollution to our waterways and seas. Our end sewage manifesto which aligned us and 12 other organisations was a successful campaigning tool to raise the in depth issues around sewage pollution as this most recent election. Our free safer seas and river service app quoted on the government websites conglomerates data from all water companies to show if a combined sewage overflow has discharged into a bathing water in near real time. As a regional rep since October 2022 I have given over 1600 hours of my voluntary time and been part of successful campaigns locally that have actually seen Southern Water investment and innovation save spills. Academics, politicians, elected representatives, EA enforcement, members of the house of lords, water company CEO, parish councils, local groups to people who attend beach cleans I passionately ask for collaboration and to get nature based solutions in to our spaces on scale and now. Three particular highlights this year were a cross party sewage motion through Isle of Wight full council, a launch of a plastic free community and a joint talk with Southern Water for the Royal Geographic Society. I always want to learn and connect so am delighted to be here at this panel discussion.
