Giacomo is one of UK’s leading experts in the delivery of ground and groundwater remediation projects, and he is the director of the Remediation and Emergency Response Pod at RSK which include spill response and remediation specialists such as Ecologia UK and Italy, RSK-Raw, RSK- Response, RemedX and RSK-Integrated Waste Solutions (IWS).

Giacomo studied at the University of Kent, gaining a PhD in Environmental Microbiology, investigating the microbial degradation of pesticides in the aqueous environment. Giacomo joined IBS Viridian in 1996 as the lead investigator of a LINK grant looking at the remediation of heavy metals in contaminated land using a novel electrokinetic technique.

In 2000, Giacomo formed Ecologia Environmental Solutions in the UK with a view to providing technical expertise and consultancy to companies operating in the contaminated land market. Over the years, Ecologia (now an RSK company) has undergone significant expansion, opening offices within the UK and a subsidiary company in Italy. Since 2023 Giacomo’s role as Pod director is to provide strategic guidance to the ongoing activities of the companies and client liaison, but he also retains a very active role in several commercial and research and development projects with the aim to improve synergies within the pod and the RSK group. Giacomo is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management and a Chartered Scientist with extensive experience of designing and supervising remediation works across Europe with a specific expertise in In-situ thermal desorption projects.
